Omar Alkilani contributed an original track titled "Nostalgia From The East" to the Migration Sounds project — the world’s first global collection of the sounds of human migration. Featuring sound stories from 51 countries, the project reimagines personal migration experiences through sound.
Migration Sounds is a collaboration between Cities and Memory and the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford. Omar’s track was based on sounds from India, reinterpreted with a nostalgic and emotional musical narrative.
The project featured:
A three-day installation at Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford.
A live performance event at The Story Museum, in partnership with Odyssey Ensemble.
Broadcast features including:
NTS Radio (UK) – 30-minute special for International Migrants Day.
CBC Radio (Canada) – 27-minute segment highlighting the project and its sounds.
Coverage on Cities and Memory’s platform and social media.
Migration Sounds continues to grow, with plans for future exhibitions and performances into 2025.
